?In patinated et gilded bronze , with three arms of lights decorated with foliage and bunches of grapes escaping from a fluted shaft carried by a woman dressed in antique style. Resting on a cylindrical base in white marble decorated with ormolu draperies and underlined by a frieze of acanthus leaves.
The design of this pair of candelabras is inspired by the work of the sculptor Etienne-Maurice Falconet (1716-1791), in particular by a model that was sketched in the margin of the booklet of the 1761 salon by Saint-Aubin (cf. H. Ottomeyer and P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, Band I, Munich 1986, p.254, fig 4.7.1); as well as a model of torchere executed by the sculptor for the castle of Versailles (cf " Le Dix-huitième siècle français, collection connaissance des Arts, Paris, 1956, p. 150)
