?A molded and carved walnut flat-back chair resting on cambered legs terminating in scrolls. The curved belt, decorated in the center and at the top of the legs with flower motifs, supports slightly whipped arm brackets. The shoulder of the backrest is highlighted by a small acanthus leaf and decorated with flowers in the center.
Etienne Meunier, the most famous carpenter of this name, worked in the first half of the 18th century. His workshop in the rue de Cléry is mentioned until the 1770s, but it is possible that his widow kept it after his death, the date of which is unknown.
He supplied chairs to several merchants, including Pierre Migeon. He was most probably one of the creators of the diamond-shaped office chair with gondola back and median front legs.
His stamp appears on a number of handsome, well-designed Louis XV chairs, with discreet curves and sparse carving.
